Meet Brian Jackson, BurstIQ Co-Founder: Cyber Security and Blockchain Expert

Earlier, I caught up with Brian Jackson, Co-Founder, and President of BurstIQ. I asked him about his journey to becoming an industry leader in Cyber Security, Blockchain, and healthcare.

Here is what he shared:

Please tell us a little about yourself and what got you started as an entrepreneur.
All the way back to being a child, I have always been much more of a leader than a follower. I have always had that take-charge and get-things-done attitude instead of waiting to be told what to do.

As an entrepreneur, you get to solve complex problems and lead teams to success. Knowing that any given day could lead to a breakthrough is what gets me out of bed every morning. Last, I enjoy the trials and tribulations that come with being an entrepreneur.

Some people say that being an entrepreneur is too full of ups and downs and bumps and bruises, but I love the excitement of being in that lane every day.

Where did the idea for BurstIQ come from?
After multiple times of our healthcare and personal information being compromised, we decided to be a part of the solution and not the problem.

Frank and I both have 20+ years in security, cloud infrastructure, and big data ranging from Fortune 100s to the Department of Defense. We decided to take that knowledge and apply it to the healthcare vertical.

BurstIQ started with a deeply held belief that each person on this planet has inherent, equal value, and that each person deserves to live their healthiest life. Everything the company does stems from that core belief.

What have been the biggest challenges your business faced during COVID-19, and how did you overcome them?
As an SMB company, culture and collaboration are key for us to expand and grow. While some things can be done via Slack and Zoom, there are strategy sessions and team bonding that just can’t be done virtually.

Keeping teams focused when there are so many outside influences and personal mental struggles are always challenging, especially when you have such a close personal relationship with each of your employees.

What advice do you wish someone had given you at the start of your entrepreneurial journey?
Have a clear and concise vision from the beginning. Take inputs from others to enhance your vision, but don’t let others steer you from your vision, which is where your passion lies.

What excites you the most about the healthcare industry right now?
I think that people and businesses finally understand the value of health data sharing. For the past 30+ years, it has been the understanding that data was valuable, so I need to silo it and never share the data. Coupled with that fact is that there really hasn’t been a good way to securely share, and consent data has made the problem even worse.

We at BurstIQ believe we have finally solved the technology hurdle and at the perfect time. With the COVID-19 pandemic, there is now finally the push to put the data back into the users’ hands. This next step in technology will open up all sorts of opportunities that improve healthcare efficiencies, cost, knowledge, and most importantly, outcomes.
